A man from Freeport and a woman from Massapequa Park were arrested early June 21 in Elmont when, during a routine traffic stop, they were found to be in possession of cocaine and heroin, according to a statement released by the Nassau County Police Department.

George Williams, 43, and Casey Daus, 23, were traveling westbound on Hempstead Turnpike when they were pulled over by police in front of 1560 Hempstead Turnpike. Police officers discovered “multiple clear plastic bags believed to contain Crack Cocaine and Heroin,” according to the statement, and Williams and Daus were arrested.

While police attempted to place Williams under arrest, he ran away from the officers and allegedly “failed to obey all verbal commands to stop.” Williams was pursued and arrested; one officer sustained injuries to his right hand amid the purusual. He was treated at a local hospital.

Williams was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. He was arraigned on June 21 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Daus, who was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, currently has two open Nassau County warrants, one for petit larceny from September 10, 2021, and one for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance from this past March.

Daus was released on the above charges and failed to show up for her court dates. She was also arraigned on June 21 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Williams was previously charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and released with no bail on April 14. On Dec. 2, he was released with no bail and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh-degree sale and criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

On March 22, he was released on an appearance ticket and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree grand larceny and possession of burglar’s tools.
