Five Towns Community Center has census information center

Posted

The Five Towns Community now has what is being called a popup census station to dispense information on the importance of the census through an unspecified amount of money from The Marion & Aaron Gural JCC from a UJA-Federation of New York grant .

The census collects vital information that is used by elected and appointed officials to fund education, hospitals and roadway infrastructure and create the districts that decide electoral representation. Nearly 30 people used the census station on June 29, the first day it was open, said Sasha Young, who coordinates Gammy’s Pantry and the Long Island Cares food distribution at the Community Center.

Every Monday and Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m., the census popup station will be open through August. The Community Center is at 270 Lawrence Ave., in Lawrence.
