Nassau to reinstate elective surgeries: county executive

Posted

Governor Cuomo has granted Nassau's request to reinstate elective surgeries, County Executive Laura Curran tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

Curran had made the request in a letter to the governor Sunday. In it, she wrote, "As regions across New York begin to open, and other services begin to resume, reinstating urgent and elective surgeries that were put on hold here in Nassau County as soon as possible is imperative. The long-term health of so many who rely on procuedures such as colonoscopies, mammograms and biopsies, just to name a few, is at stake."

Westchester and Suffolk counties were recently allowed to resume elective surgeries.

Elective surgeries were prohibited at the peak of the coronavirus to help stop the spread of the disease and ensure there were enough hospital beds for all Covid-19 patients who needed them.
