The North Shore School District announced Monday the five candidates who will run for three open seats on the Board of Education. The trustee election will take place at the same time as the annual budget vote on Tuesday, May 21 in the North Shore High School gym.
Board of Education President Sara Jones, of Sea Cliff, will seek re-election, as will Vice President David Ludmar, of Glenwood Landing, and Trustee Marianne Russo, of Glen Head. Jones and Russo are each seeking a third, three-year term, and Ludmar his second.
Jerry Romano is running for the first time and Anthony Stanco, who ran for trustee last year, is also on the ballot. Both are from Sea Cliff.
Residents will have a chance to ask the candidates questions and hear their thoughts on school matters at a Meet the Candidates event on Wednesday, May 1, at 8 p.m. in the North Shore High School cafeteria.

The budget
The community will vote on two budget propositions this year. The first is to approve the $107.8 million adopted budget, which reflects a 2.8 percent increase from the previous year.
Also on the ballot is a proposition to approve transportation limits. The Board of Education is asking to reduce its transportation eligibility at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year for students in grades 6-12 from the existing one-mile limit to a three-quarter-mile limit to increase ridership at no additional cost to the district. The school district must seek community approval prior to modifying its public transportation distance limit.
Voter registration for the budget will take place on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Office, 112 Franklin Ave., Sea Cliff. Voter registration forms are available at each of the five schools and in Central Office. The annual budget vote and trustee election is Tuesday, May 21, in the North Shore High School gym from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. All budget materials mailed to residents will be provided in both English and Spanish.
