The community gathers to honor Lou Alvarez at the Schoolhouse Green on Sept. 13 at 6:15 p.m. Alvarez was an Oceanside resident, former NYPD detective and an advocate for the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund. He developed cancer after working at the World Trade Center following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and died in June. Join the community for a candlelight ceremony in his memory, followed by a celebration of his life at EGP Oceanside.
