The Nassau County Department of Health confirmed that a staff member at the New Visions School had tested positive for Covid-19 prior to the school’s reopening on Sept. 8.

District officials said a following investigation found that there was no exposure to staff or students as the final day the employ worked within the district was on Sept. 4, when no students were present in the building.

Following state and county guidelines, the employee needed to stay out of the district for 10 days and could return once a negative Covid-19 test result could be provided.

The school was cleaned and sanitized prior to the in-person reopening day.

According to State Department of Health records, this was the only positive case in the Freeport School District so far.

“As always, the health and safety of our students and staff is our first priority,” said Kishore Kuncham, Superintendent of Schools. “We will continue to work closely with the Commissioner of Health and the Nassau County Health Department and take all necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of our school community.”
