On Saturday, the Island Park Chamber of Commerce handed out dozens of gift certificates to local businesses for residents as part of its #IPCares initiative. The event was a stimulus program where the chamber awarded about $3,000 in the form of $50 gift certificates and other grants to residents, which are redeemable at more than 25 Island Park businesses.

“The Island Park Chamber of Commerce realized that due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, our member businesses were suffering,” chamber President Barbra Rubin-Perry said. “We decided to use the funds collected through dues and events to give back to our supporters and our community.”

The chamber’s board and officers created the program to help revitalize the business community after many businesses were shutdown or had to alter their practices amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Winners of the contest were given gift certificates at Saturday’s event. Participants had to live in Island Park and “like’ the chamber’s Facebook page.
