A Wheatley Heights man was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property after a vehicle taken from Hempstead was found unoccupied Jan. 12 at 11:23 a.m. in Oceanside, Nassau County police said.

Fourth Precinct officers responded that day to a call for a man driving a gray Honda CRV erratically south on Long Beach Road. The vehicle was speeding and had no tires on the driver’s side. Officers found the CRV outside the Outback Steakhouse at 3939 Long Beach Road.

Witnesses described the suspect for officers, who spotted him leaving Ace Hardware, at 3965 Long Beach Road. An investigation determined the Honda CRV had been stolen earlier in the day.

The defendant, Claudy Fleury, 25, of Sunset Avenue, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He was arraigned Jan. 13 at First District Court in Hempstead.
