Do you know how much iron is in cereal? How much bacteria is in your make-up? What materials can block a Wi-Fi signal? You could have discovered the answers to these and other challenging scientific questions at the Island Park Lincoln Orens Middle School’s 20th Annual Science Fair, held Jan. 15 in the school’s gymnasium. Under the guidance of seventh grade science teacher Sheryl Waxberg and eighth grade science teacher Phillip DeSantis, students in grades seven and eight created and implemented close to one hundred different experiments to test various hypotheses. Several hundred friends, family members, and neighbors viewed the exhibits and were extremely impressed with the topics and the students’ methods of experimentation.

Ten projects from each grade level were selected as 2015 Science Fair Award winners:
