Rockville Centre is experiencing power outages after a tornado brought extreme winds across the island the village and caused trees to take down power lines. In a statement Saturday evening, the village government said that it was working to bring in crews from neighboring electric departments to support their restoration efforts.

In a Facebook post, Village Administrator Nancy Howard said that gas lines were “torn up” by uprooted trees.

PSEG’s website listed 12,078 affected customers on its outage map as of 6:30 p.m.
