Boat collision kills Rockville Centre teen in Baldwin Harbor

An 18-year-old woman riding a personal watercraft in the Middle Bay waterways died Sunday after colliding with a 35-foot Fountain motorboat, Nassau County police said.

Caitlin Rose McDonald, of Rockville Centre, struck the boat at around 10:30 a.m. in the bay, southeast of Parsonage Cove, off the coast of Baldwin Park, according to police.

The NCPD Marine Bureau and the Baldwin Fire Department rushed to the scene. McDonald was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a physician. NCPD homicide detectives are investigating the collision.

A wake is being held for McDonald, who graduated from South Side High School last year and was attending Loyola University in Maryland, at Thomas Glynn & Son Funeral Home, 20 Lincoln Ave., Rockville Centre, on July 18. A funeral Mass is scheduled for July 19 at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre.
