Butterscotch finds home through Posh Pets

Leslie Feifer lost her pit bull, Maggie Moo, last August. She didn’t just lose a pet.

She lost “a kid.”

Three days after the passing of her dog, Feifer, a partner at Jaspan Schlesinger LLP, and her husband, decided they needed a new dog to fill the void in their life. So, they began their search on Petfinder, a website for people looking for a new pet.

They quickly found Butterscotch.

Butterscotch, another pit bull, was living at Posh Pets Rescue in Long Beach, which Feifer had never heard of. The dog came to Posh Pets from Texas, where she was treated poorly, and wasn’t doing well in the shelter and was losing weight.

So, Posh Pets was trying to find a loving home for the dog quickly.

Feifer, 54, and her husband still weren’t set on adopting Butterscotch who was a year and three months old, which is younger than they were planning on. However, two days later, her husband saw what he thought was a sign – a butterfly in the window of his car. He decided he wanted the dog.

They set up video conferences with Posh Pets to show their house and meet with the care workers about adoption. They adopted Butterscotch shortly after.

“I knew nothing of Posh Pets when we went,” Feifer said. “I was so impressed with how hard they worked to find [Butterscotch] a home.”

Feifer was so impressed that she nominated them for her company’s Heart of the Community Award. The award is given to 75 local businesses, in honor of the company being in business for 75 years and includes a $1,000 donation to each.

Posh Pets won one of the September awards last year and was given the award by Feifer during a visit to the shelter.

“This place deserves this,” Feifer said emotionally. “They are such incredible people and they do great things. They make my heart swoon.”
