Hundreds rally for first responders in East Meadow

Hundreds of people from across Long Island attended a first responder rally at the site of the old Home Depot in East Meadow on June 28. Flags waved and people cheered as first responders drove by honking or hitting their sirens.

The event was hosted by the Facebook groups The State of Long Island and the Long Island First Responder Support Group. In addition to organizing rallies in support of first responders, the group is also being used to raise funds to send gift baskets and donations to the Nassau County and New York police departments.

The flier for the event said that it is not political and attendees are encouraged to bring American flags and set up pop-up tents to show support. A posting for the event read that it’s goal is to “promote supporting the first responders who do the right thing everyday [and] showing them people still love them like we did last month at the height of Covid-19.”
