North Merrick WINGS students get creative to support health care heroes

Posted

Students in the North Merrick School District’s WINGS program recently participated in a special community project to support medical workers on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic.

WINGS teachers Patricia Black and Maria Castle, who dubbed the project “Operation Frontline,” had students help to remotely design face mask extenders, which make the PPE more comfortable to wear. The extenders were produced using the district's 3D printers.

Additionally, the students created short Flipgrid videos to thank and inspire medical workers for all they are doing to help patients during the pandemic. They included artwork and read poems, or shared a moment with their pet to personalize the donation.

The mask extenders and videos were sent to staffers at Mount Sinai South Nassau hospital, Nassau University Medical Hospital and Cohen Children's Hospital.
