To commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. and his fight for equality, Gotham Avenue School in Elmont held its first-ever MLK Jr. Peace March on Jan. 13.

Students decked out the entire building with personally designed peace posters and marched through the hallways to an assembly in the gymnasium.

Principal William Mingo emphasized the importance of Dr. King’s life as he spoke to the young crowd. Students from various grade levels joined the staged to read poems and perform songs celebrating the life of Dr. King.
