School year starts off strong in Long Beach

The Long Beach 2019-20 school year began on Sept. 4 as students and faculty members entered their respective buildings for the first day of classes. Administrators and teachers greeted students as they walked through the halls and entered their classrooms to set up their school supplies, organize their desks and get to know their classmates.

This school year brings numerous exciting updates including the second-year phase-in of the new elementary school’s science curriculum and the launch of the AVID program at Long Beach High School. A robotics team and a junior varsity hockey team are also among new additions. Students will also benefit from Chromebook replacements, improvements to Wi-Fi access. Upgrades were also made to the auditorium sound systems at Long Beach Middle School and the LBHS as well as upgrades to Lindell School auditorium seats and flooring.

A new cafeteria wall with a transom and the creation of a new culinary arts classroom are expected to be completed during the school year at the high school.

As safety is always a priority, multiple projects are in the works to help ensure smoother traffic flow for those entering and leaving the Lido Complex and the high school.

Kirstyn Golden, a new elementary guidance counselor, was added for this year, along with Deborah Bernardino-Arden, who will take on a new role as a district-wide elementary social worker. School officials said they look forward to the upcoming school year, filled with moments that make them #ProudToBeLB.
