Summer arts program launches in Freeport

The Freeport School District has set up multiple virtual meeting and field trips for the more than 175 students who have enrolled in the district’s summer arts program.

Along with taking creative courses over the Internet, students will also be able to meet with talented artists and industry leaders whose works shine on the big screen.

Students are set to meet with HBO costume designer Kasia Walicka Malmone and production supervisor Gus Gustafson to learn about the TV and film industry.

Students will also meet Alan Zweibel, a writer from Saturday Night Live, to learn what it is like to put together a scene for the show.

Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood, of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” fame, will also stop by.

Throughout the summer arts program, students will work to design rocks and seashells that have inspiring messages of hope and kindness written on them to complete a “Kindness Garden” by the end of the program.
