The eighth annual Women in the Arts Gala, hosted by Artists in Partnership, will take place on April 10 to honor 12 women whose contributions have enriched the local arts community.

The gala was founded by Director Johanna Mathieson-Ellmer, who initially envisioned it as a small rooftop gathering at the Allegria Hotel featuring a fashion show, music and interactive art.

“To date, Artists in Partnership has recognized 120 women who every day through their dedication, passion and tireless efforts make our community better through their support, promotion and creation of the arts,” Mathieson-Ellmer said.

Among those being recognized this year is Bec Rathmann-Landini, a yoga teacher, educator and advocate with over two decades of experience. She has worked with respected nonprofits in HIV/AIDS prevention and trauma-informed birth support, teaching yoga regularly since 2009.

Syd Goldman, a senior at Long Beach High School, has already earned recognition for her artistic achievements. Through the International Baccalaureate Visual Arts program her award-winning works reflect her cultural identity and family influences.

Dr. Pearl Ketover Prilik is being acknowledged for her poetry, writing and work as a psychoanalyst. With a career spanning teaching roles from St. Croix and St. Thomas to New York City middle and high schools, her writing includes four nonfiction books and a focus on capturing life through poetry.

Spiritual healer Claudia E. Valencia has spent the past 30 years traveling across South America, Europe and the United States guiding healing circles and meditation practices using Quartz and Tibetan singing bowls.

Nicole Bergman, a Long Beach resident since 2013, is being recognized for her work as both an artist and a community advocate. After earning a law degree at Hofstra University she pursued her passion for art, creating commissioned home portraits while fostering an appreciation for the arts in her family and community.

Lissette Resnick, a classically trained oil painter who draws inspiration from everyday life, will also be celebrated. Having trained at prestigious institutions like the Grand Central Atelier and the New York Academy of Art, she currently serves as the director and president of the Long Beach Art League which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.

Danielle Bertoli will be recognized for her work as a writer, educator and director of the Harriet Eisman Community School, an alternative high school for at-risk youth. Under her leadership the school provides critical educational and mental health services through Long Island Reach, a nonprofit support organization.

Jen Rubin, a vocalist with a diverse musical range spanning rock, jazz and more, will also be highlighted. In addition to her solo work she has performed with independent bands including the Katie Mitchell Band, known for their engaging storytelling through music.

Visual designer and photographer Susan Tian Clancy will be acknowledged for her contributions to both the business and arts communities. As the founder of her own design agency she has contributed to the branding of major companies and startups while actively supporting the local arts scene as the owner of Earth Arts in Long Beach.

Tickets for the event are $150 and include a buffet, dessert and a ticket for a complimentary beverage. The gala will be in the ballroom from 6 to 10 p.m.
