Lynbrook Village election on Tuesday

Lynbrook residents can vote in the village election on March 18, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., at the Lynbrook Recreation Center, at 55 Wilbur St.

Registered voters can cast their ballots for candidates from the Lynbrook New Vision Party running for village justice and two trustee seats.

Richard Fasano, an attorney, is running unopposed for village justice. Fasano, 40, has served as a juvenile justice prosecutor for the New York City Law Department in Queens County for six years, and previously handled violent felonies and homicides as an assistant district attorney with the Bronx County district attorney’s Domestic Violence Unit. He earned a law degree from St. John’s University Law School, and is involved in village-sponsored events, including being a Lynbrook Titans Cheer Dad.

Trustee Michael Habert is running unopposed for re-election. Habert, 53, retired as a first-grade homicide detective in the New York City Police Department in 2018 after 26 years with the department.

He is a trained hostage negotiator and a former detective investigator for the Kings County district attorney’s office. Habert attended Nassau Community College, has served as a trustee since 2023, as well as on the Board of Zoning Appeals and has been involved in the Lynbrook Cares Committee and is a co-founder of Lynbrook Oktoberfest.

Deputy Mayor Michael Hawxhurst is also seeking re-election as a trustee, running unopposed. Hawxhurst, 57, has served as deputy mayor since 2019, and has over 30 years of experience as an internal audit director. He earned a master’s degree in taxation from St. John’s University, and has been involved in a variety of village activities, including serving as a board representative to the public library.
