On Oct. 17, volunteers of the Lynbrook Fire Department, including its Ladies Auxiliary and junior firefighters, marched from the Earle Avenue parking lot to the Lynbrook Firefighters Memorial on the corner of Sunrise Highway and Earle Avenue to remember and honor the six firefighters who died in the line of duty while serving the village.

Firefighters who died in the line of duty include Lieut. Fred Schnoor, who died on May 31, 1932; John Smillie, who died on July 13, 1939; Chief Raymond Abrams, who died on June 30, 1946; William H. Koch, who died on April 30, 1963; Peter J. Moody, who died on May 2, 1963; and Joseph C. Fischer, who died on May 3, 1963.

After the memorial service, the department gathered at the Knights of Columbus Hall for breakfast and to hear guest speaker, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, a former Lynbrook resident and firefighter.
