Freeport begins water flush program

The Freeport Water Department has begun its annual water main flushing program, which runs from April 19 to April 26.

The flushing program serves as a regular maintenance activity to ensure the village’s water service is running properly.

Throughout this period, the department will be opening hydrants in neighborhoods north of Sunrise Highway. Due to the flushing, the tap water in these areas may temporarily appear rusty, but village officials say it is still safe to drink. Due to the discoloration, check the water before doing laundry.

Officials add that if you continue to see discoloration in the water after the flushing is completed, leave the cold water running for 15 minutes.
