The New Hyde Park-North Shore Elks Lodge No. 2107 named Glen Cove resident Gaitley Stevenson-Mathews as its 2025 Citizen of the Year, recognizing his exceptional service to veterans and the broader Long Island community at its April 6 Installation of Officers
Stevenson-Mathews is the founder and president of the Tribute and Honor Foundation, which has raised nearly $50,000 to support the rebuilding of the Glen Cove VFW following a devastating fire. The Foundation also honors local veterans and supporters through its annual awards ceremony and has recently launched a scholarship in memory of Korean War veteran Ben Farnan.
“Gaitley’s dedication to our veterans is unprecedented,” said Chris Petrella, Exalted Ruler of the Lodge. “We were proud to honor him.”
In addition to his work with the Foundation, Stevenson-Mathews serves as the Community Engagement Officer at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County. His extensive service has earned him multiple awards, including the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce's Community Service Award and VFW Post 347's Distinguished Service Award.
“Gaitley’s commitment to service is an inspiration to all of us in Glen Cove,” said Mayor Pam Panzenbeck. “He takes a project from beginning to end, never resting until the goal is fully accomplished. His work with veterans and the community sets a remarkable example for others to follow.”
Also recognized during the ceremony were Anthony Vitale as Officer of the Year and Robert Giglio, posthumously named Elk of the Year. Giglio’s award was accepted by his widow, Kathleen Lang, who currently serves as the Lodge’s secretary.
The evening celebrated the installation of the Lodge’s 2025 officers and reaffirmed the Elks’ mission of service and community engagement.
