Long Island Nets earn first home victory

The Long Island Nets (6-5), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the Delaware Blue Coats (5-7) 125-123 on Monday night at Nassau Coliseum.

Long Island was led by Brooklyn two-way guard David Duke Jr. with 28 points, five rebounds and one assist in 31 minutes. While on assignment with Long Island, Brooklyn center Day’Ron Sharpe notched his first double-double of the NBA G League season with 27 points and 17 rebounds to go along with one assist and two blocks in 27 minutes. While also on assignment, Brooklyn forward Kessler Edwards tallied 20 points and eight rebounds in 30 minutes.

The two teams got off to an even start during the first quarter as Long Island and Delaware went point-for-point. Consecutive fouls by the Blue Coats allowed the Nets to edge past Delaware, and end the period up by eight, 37-29. The Nets kept their momentum up while the Blue Coats looked to bounce back, redemption never came for Delaware and Long Island ended the first half up by 12, 61-49.

Although Delaware outscored Long Island by five in third quarter, it was not enough to turn the tides overall. The Nets went into the final period up by seven, 93-86. The Blue Coats would not go down without a fight and tied the game six times in the last quarter. Long Island capitalized on the final foul of the game by Delaware and went on to defeat the Blue Coats, 125-123.

Delaware’s effort was led by Sixers two-way forward Julian Champagnie with 38 points, nine rebounds and one assist in 41 minutes. Blue Coats forward Charlie Brown Jr. notched 23 points, five rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes.

The Nets will face the Blue Coats again on Wednesday at home on Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. ET.
