New York Surf Week returns to Long Beach

Surf Week is set to return to Long Beach for its 10th year and will feature surfing and skating competitions, a movie night, a summer party and charity events.

NYSEA’s New York Surf Week will run from July 10-14. The event kicks off on with an Adaptive All-Stars Competition, which is sponsored by Surf for All, a local nonprofit that organizes surf outings and other events for those with disabilities and special needs.

The event began 10 years ago to memorialize the late George “Geeza” Geiser, a local surfing legend and friend of Surf Week co-founder Will Skudin, the professional big-wave surfer. A memorial paddle out in Geiser’s honor will be held on July 13 at 2 p.m. at Long Beach Boulevard beach.

The weekend will also feature the 2nd annual Lady Liberty Classic on July 12, a women’s surfing competition for all ages. The Lady Liberty Classic, as well as the NYSEA Jr Pro, a co-ed competition for people under 20 years old, will each have a $1,500 purse for the winners. The open surfing contest features both professional and local surfers.
