South High School gives back for Family Service Day

Posted

Over 200 Valley Stream South High School students and their families came together on Family Service Day to help local families in need for Thanksgiving on Saturday, Nov. 20. Food baskets were prepared and distributed to South High families and to the Holy Name of Mary’s food pantry.
Senior Alysse Fazal said service day allowed her a “wonderful opportunity to give back to a diverse, accepting, and caring community.”
“When I needed it most, my community was there for me, providing anything I needed,” said Fazal. “It feels great to be able to give back in times of need for other families of the community.”
“Thank you to everyone who donated food items and volunteered their time to decorate and fill baskets, as well as author thoughtful handwritten notes for each family. You made this year’s Family Service Day a huge success. This is what Falcon pride is all about” said Maureen Henry, Principal of South High School. On a day of giving and thankfulness, South High students truly lived out their school motto: “Small acts of kindness make a big difference.”
