Arrest made in November bank robbery

On Feb. 24, a man was arrested for the robbery that took place at the Sterling National Bank in Merrick on Nov. 8, 2021.

Defendant Demetri Miller, 58 of Uniondale, is charged with three accounts of second-degree robbery and three accounts of third-degree robbery.

According to the Major Case Bureau robbery squad, the defendant entered the bank, approached the teller and handed a note demanding money. The teller surrendered an undisclosed amount of cash and the defendant fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Area school districts, in an abundance of caution, had entered a temporary lockout due to the robbery.

Miller was arraigned on Feb. 25 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
