Lakeside PTA to hold ‘End of Year Dinner’ virtually

Posted

May 18 would have been the Lakeside Parent Teacher Association’s annual “End of the Year Dinner,” where we celebrate parents and teachers and induct a new executive board. It is a night for the school community to socialize, enjoy a good meal and enter to win amazing raffle prizes from local and national vendors. For the second year in a row, it was supposed to be held at Matteo’s in Bellmore.

As times grew more challenging and social distancing became a new word in our vocabulary, we soon realized the dinner wouldn’t take place after months of planning. However, we wanted to find a way to socialize within the current parameters, and spread some happiness to the parents and teachers of the school. So, we looped in Matteo’s, got them onboard and on May 28 we are going to “virtually” attend the annual dinner.

Matteo’s is putting together a special to-go dinner package for the evening. Lakeside families will eat together and then log onto a Zoom meeting at 8 p.m. There will be speeches, laughs and an opportunity to enter to win raffle prizes ranging from gift cards to jewelry to tailgating grills. We hope this dinner will help funnel people into the local businesses that generously donated gift cards to support our fundraiser.

Lakeside will use a portion of the money raised from the purchase of raffle tickets to buy additional meals from Matteo’s to donate to essential workers at local medical facilities and/or hospitals.
