The North Merrick School District honored six educators who retired after the 2024-25 school year.
These educators represented nearly 150 years of service and were recognized at the June 10 board meeting by their building principals, who described what made them standout teachers who put their students first.
“On behalf of the board, we would like to congratulate and thank all of our retirees,” Board of Education president Meg Ryan said prior to the presentations. “You made it. Congratulations!”
They include Maria Castle, a sixth grade teacher at Harold D. Fayette (31 years), Arlene Nucero, a second grade teacher at Camp Avenue (27 years), Sheila Kuschner, a kindergarten teacher at Harold D. Fayette for 20 years, Cathy Marketos, an ENL teacher at Camp Avenue (25 years), Pamela Schloss, a teacher assistant at Camp Avenue (20 years), and Mary Haggerty, a special education aid at Old Mill Road (21 years).
