Helen Schwartz, 61

Helen Schwartz, a longtime Oceanside resident, passed away in her sleep on Thursday, June 30 at the age of 61. She was born in Manhattan to parents of Japanese descent.

She had a great love of cats, movies, traveling, shopping and sports including gymnastics, roller skating, swimming and bicycling. During her teenage years, she was selected as a Regional Winner in a Cover Girl Model contest and was featured in Co-Ed Magazine and Newark News Magazine.

Schwartz was very active in her beloved son Corey’s life, including coaching his Little League baseball team and holding positions in all of his school’s Parent Associations. She most recently worked as the office manager for the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce where she was well known amongst chamber members and organized several community events.

Helen is survived by her 32-year-old son, Corey, who resides in Miami Beach, Florida, her sister, Michelle Hama, of Atlantic Beach, New York and her best friends Ginger Sheflin and Cherrie Ghosh.
