Oceanside gets rootin' and tootin' at Roller Skatin’ Roundup

Posted

Now in its 58th year, the Oceanside Annual Roller Skating Show is a staple in the Oceanside community. This year the theme was Roller Skatin’ Roundup, as students skated at the Oceanside Middle School to country songs like 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton, Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus and the grand finale of the classic Cotton Eye Joe by Rednex.

Students have been prepping since September for the event, which is a “culmination of all their hard work and enthusiasm,” Maria Bavaro, supervisor of the Department of Community Activities said, “and to see the children as well as the staff perform, really just brings a smile to your face. It was toe tapping music and you had to join in in the enthusiasm. It’s such a joy to see the children learn, perform and just enjoy all they put into it.”

Bavaro said the event, which featured students from four years old to teens, was a team effort between the Department of Community Activities, the Oceanside School District and the Kiwanis Club of Oceanside.
