Hempstead Town Hall closes to the public

Town establishes hotline to connect residents to services

Posted

To slow the spread of coronavirus, Hempstead Town Hall is now closed to the public until further notice per Governor Cuomo's executive order to limit staffing, services and person-to-person interaction statewide.

Town officials announced Monday efforts to ensure that the town's essential services would operate in an efficient and safe manner during the pandemic.

Residents can use a new hotline to leave a message and schedule a telephone conference with the Building Department, the town clerk and tax receiver's offices and the Parks Department. The hotline number is: (516) 812-3600.

Residents can also send questions to these departments at the following emails:

— Tohbuildingquestions@tohmail.org

— Tohtownclerkquestions@tohmail.org

— Tohtaxquestions@tohmail.org

— Tohparksquestions@tohmail.org

The town's main number — (516) 489-5000 — is still operating during normal business hours, but due to limited staff at town offices, it is recommended that residents utilize the new hotline or send an email to the department for the most expeditious response.

Residents looking to contact other departments are asked to send an email. A list of departmental email addresses, can be found at www.hempsteadtownny.gov/directory.

Additionally, all town playgrounds, dog parks, courts and golf courses are now closed until further notice. This is in addition to temporary closures at Newbridge Ice Rink, the Echo Park Pool Complex and the postponement of all activities, community events, Camp ANCHOR programs and meetings. Also, the Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve in Merrick is also closed until further notice.
