The Locust Valley Central School District budget passed on Tuesday evening, with 1,284 votes for and 982 votes against. Additionally, voters have re-elected Board of Education incumbent Margaret Marchand and elected challenger Michele Schaefer, a Spanish teacher in the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District.
Marchand received the most votes amongst the candidates with 969, while runner up Schaefer took 954. Both will take their seats as trustees in the coming days.
The school budget of roughly $91.5 million saw an increase of $1,248,987 from last year’s budget, representing a 1.49 percent tax increase.
The new budget will allow the school to maintain low class sizes, all current AP, IB and college level offerings. It will also allow them to expand their summer enrichment camp, offer high school Mandarin language courses, and touchscreen chromebook replacement.
