Her family described a person who did not need to be applauded or exalted, however Marcia “Marcy” Moreines appeared to be a woman who knew when action was needed.

For more than 30 years she helped cross adults and children at the busy and on occasion hazardous crossing guard post at the intersection of Sheridan and Bayswater boulevards in Inwood.

“She even risked life and limb by once being hit by a car while on duty,” he son Michael posted on Facebook. “Thankfully, that would not deter Marcy from her post.”

Marcia died on May 21. She was 84.
Born Oct. 16, 1935, Marcia living in Delray Beach, Fla.,“passed away quietly and without fanfare, just the way she would have wanted it,” her daughter Sue posted. A small gathering of family was held at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens on May 26.

“Her children, Michael and Jenna Moreines, Susan Moreines and Dana Brennan will keep her memory alive here on earth, as she travels to her forever home to be with her husband, Lewis Moreines, her sister, Judith Cohen, her parents, Elsie and Lou Klein and the many other family members and friends who passed before her,” Sue posted.

Also, on Facebook, people shared their memories. “So sorry for your loss,” Inwood resident Rosemarie Reo wrote. “I was friends with Sue. So [I] spent many hours at your house on Oak (Place). Your mom always had a smile on her face crossing us kids on the way to the No. 2 School. May she rest in peace.”

“So sorry,” Marie Butindaro Daniels posted. “I remember her well. “[C]rossed my [three] kids for years and I lived in her brother-in-law’s Eli’ house many years. I loved her. She was a very sweet lady.”

The family requested that to honor Marcia’s memory, donate in her name to a charity of choice.
