The Rev. Michael Duffy, of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, in Malverne, announced during Saturday Mass that he was named as the next rector of St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre.

Duffy, who served as pastor of Lourdes for the past three years, was appointed to his new role at St. Agnes Cathedral by Bishop John Barres. He will begin his role at St. Agnes on August 26.

“These last three years have been an incredible adventure,” Duffy said in a letter to parishioners. “I never expected that I would leave so soon, but I trust in God’s will and believe that he has a plan for each of us. I am grateful to God and Bishop Barres for allowing me to be your pastor these last three years. I will miss each of you tremendously.”

The Rev. James Stachacz, of St. Ignatius Loyola in Hicksville, was appointed as OLL’s next pastor. “Father Jim is a dynamic, effective, holy priest,” Duffy said, “and I know that you will receive him and welcome him with the same openness as you received and welcomed me.”
