A school spokesperson said the recognition highlights the athletes’ commitment to positive change and leadership in the community.
The East Rockaway varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams hosted a “Dig Pink” game against Oyster Bay High School to raise awareness for breast cancer. The event included a bake sale, which raised $300 for Susan G. Komen Foundation. The foundation supports breast cancer research and those affected by the disease. Players wore pink jerseys during the game to show their solidarity with the cause. In addition, the teams prepared snack bags for the Oyster Bay players, officials, and supervisors, demonstrating their dedication to goodwill and sportsmanship.
The East Rockaway varsity cross-country team also took the time to recognize the officials who oversee their meets. At a recent meet, the team presented each official with a token of appreciation to acknowledge their hard work and support.
East Rockaway’s varsity cheerleading squad hosted cheer clinics for local youth, offering two sessions for students in grades K-3 and 4-6. During the clinics, the cheerleaders taught basic cheerleading skills, including motions, stunts, and jumps. Participants also enjoyed a performance by the cheer team, which showcased their skills and enthusiasm.
