Updated: Five Towns urgent care centers see fluctuating wait times

Posted

With Covid-19 cases increasing across the county, patients at urgent care centers are seeing increased waiting lines. Five Towns locations reported mixed results on the wait times.

MD Family Urgent Care Center is an urgent care center at 380 Rockaway Turnpike in Cedarhurst. They are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m everyday. An employee at the Cedarhurst location who declined to give their name said the waiting line fluctuates. When the Herald called the morning of Nov. 20, there were four people waiting.

At Urgent MD Family Urgent Care Center in Hewlett at 1220 Peninsula Blvd., that is open everyday from 4 p.m. to midnight.

Both Urgent-MD locations are currently offering two forms of Covid-19 testing. The Serum Antibody IgG (blood test) and the Nasal PCR Swab.

The Serum Antibody IgG Blood test will test if you had a previous infection of Covid-19 and your body has built an antibody for the virus.

The Nasal PCR test will detect an active Covid-19 Virus infection.

No appointments are required.

Despite the increase in cases, Hewlett-Woodmere Business Association President David Friedman said that there was no line at the Hewlett site when he drove by the site on Nov. 18.

“I did not see a line when I went to CVS Wednesday at 6 p.m. but someone did tell me they recently went to an urgent care in Lynbrook and they waited three hours for a Covid test.” Friedman said.

The Five Towns Community Center in Lawrence began serving as a coronavirus testing site in late-October. Friedman said he heard about an increase in waiting times at the center.

"I went a couple of weeks ago and it was no problem," he said. "Now I'm hearing that the wait times are increasing. I think it's getting overbooked at this time."

There is also a children's urgent care center as the Cohen Children's Northwell Health-GoHealth Pediatric Urgent Care located at 1332 Peninsula Blvd in Hewlett  is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday. Appointments can be made at gohealthuc.com

Correction: An original version of the article quoted Friedman saying he saw a line at Urgent MD Family Urgent Care Center in Hewlett. He did not see a line at the location.
