The Hewlett Harbor village board has a new member as Gil Bruh was appointed at the Feb. 11  meeting to replace Jonathan Polakoff, who resigned from the board a few days earlier.

Bruh, 38, has lived in the village for the past three years with his wife, Jennifer, and son Spencer, 3. Bruh is the founder and president of Modern Age Technology, an information technology provider. With 15 years in the technology field, he has spent the past decade on Wall Street specializing in financial technology, building connections to major derivative exchanges.

“It is an honor to have been selected to serve as a trustee of Hewlett Harbor,” Bruh said in a statement. “As one who has watched this village government punch above its weight for years, I consider it a privilege to become more intimately involved in working with the mayor and my fellow trustees to enhance the quality of life for our residents.”

He has been involved in a variety of village initiatives in the past two years. In addition to serving as treasurer, he was a driving force behind the license plate reader program, and is now a member of the  security committee.

“Transparency and security are two issues that are critically important to the mayor and the board,” Bruh added. “I look forward to continuing to apply my professional expertise to enhancing our reputation for honesty and integrity in government and, and to shine a light on our village signature, ‘Hewlett Harbor: Quite Simply, A Great Place to Live.”

Weiss said the work Bruh has done laid the groundwork for him to become a trustee. “For the past two years, Gil’s commitment to the village and his desire to work with the Board to prepare us for the decades to come, has distinguished him as most worthy of this appointment,” he said in a statement. “I join Len Oppenheimer, Tom Cohen, and Ken Kornblau in welcoming Gil to the board.”
