Hummingbird Boutique will hold its first fashion show on Sunday, July 18 from noon to 3 p.m. The show, with up to 34 looks, will be staged indoor and outdoor at the Metropolitan Bistro located at 39 Roslyn Avenue.

Inspired by the beauty of the village and its natural surroundings, the show's theme will be "Scenes from the Sea," and has acquired the support of a number of local businesses including Glowinskin Esthetics, Sarah Regan Interiors and other Sea Cliff businesses.

“As a small business in Sea Cliff, I understand the challenges we have all faced to stay open for the past year and a half, so I try to provide as much support for other local businesses and our community as possible,” said Jaime Glowinski, owner of Glow In Skin Esthetics, one of the sponsors of the show. “I’m looking forward to being a part of this fashion show and future events.”

“I thought having it at a local venue would be exciting for the Sea Cliff community and inviting local businesses to sponsor the event would further strengthen the message of uniting small businesses together,” said Suzette LaValle, owner of Hummingbird.

“As a local entrepreneur, it makes me genuinely happy to help support new businesses. My hope is that this event brings a wider audience to the other local shops and our town in general,” said Christina Volz, a real estate broker with Compass, another sponsor of the event.

Tickets are available through eventbrite at $15 each, or at the door the day of the event. Each seat includes a complimentary cocktail and a swag bag, as well as a petite menu provided by Metropolitan Bistro. The event will also feature cocktails custom made for the show by the drink sponsor of the event, Felene Vodka of Denver, Colorado.

Founded in December of 2019 by LaValle, an expert celebrity stylist and fashion industry veteran, Hummingbird is an upscale women’s apparel and lifestyle boutique located in the village of Sea Cliff.

The show has been curated into four seaside themes inspired by the charm and beauty of Sea Cliff and its natural surroundings: the waves, the sunset, the dunes and the full moon. Each theme will be presented with its own unique music and feature looks styled by Lavalle presented on professional models who will weave their way throughout the bistro’s indoor space and outdoor garden.

LaValle has spent over 30 years in the fashion industry. Originally from Brooklyn, she began her career in her early twenties traveling to Paris regularly after she landed her first buying position, where she was featured in a New York Times article detailing the discovery of a new accessory that became all the rage. She went on to spend 12 years as a fashion stylist.

“I spent most of my career working as a freelance fashion stylist. The assignments were always intense and physically, mentally and creatively challenging,” said LaValle. “Fashion shows were the most challenging of all but I loved each piece of the production process; the styling, the music, the thrill of the guest arrivals and the adrenaline rush of the show and backstage, to name a few.”

Throughout the years she continuously worked with fashion's top magazines such as Bazaar, Elle, Interview and Surface and many more, styling celebrities including Mark Wahlberg and Rosario Dawson.

LaValle spent several years as a visual merchandiser for many of New York City's hottest shops until 2015, when she opened her own store in Brooklyn.
