Five things to know about February events at Wantagh Public Library

February is packed with exciting events at the Wantagh Public Library, offering activities for all ages. From hands-on crafts and educational programs to interactive entertainment, there’s something for everyone. Here are five standout events happening after Feb. 6 that you won’t want to miss.

  1. make your own heart-shaped pizza

Children in grades K-5 can celebrate Valentine’s Day by creating their own heart-shaped pizza on Friday, Feb. 14, at 4 p.m. Participants will roll out the dough, add sauce and cheese, and take it home to bake. Registration opens for Wantagh Public Library cardholders on Jan. 31 and for out-of-district cardholders on Feb. 7.

  1. mystery of owls

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 12 p.m., children in grades 2-5 can get an up-close look at owls with the Sweetbriar Nature Center. Attendees will meet non-releasable owls and learn about their behaviors, adaptations, and role in the ecosystem. Registration opens Feb. 6 for Wantagh Public Library cardholders and Feb. 13 for out-of-district patrons.

 

  1. make your own tea

Adults can learn the art of making custom tea blends on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. This hands-on workshop will teach participants how to craft their own tea bags and decorate personalized tags. Each attendee will take home six tea bags. Registration opens Jan. 25 for Wantagh Public Library cardholders and Feb. 1 for out-of-district patrons. A $5 registration fee is required.

  1. family magic show

Families with children ages 4 and up can enjoy an interactive magic show on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. Magician Adam Heller will entertain the audience with tricks, humor, and plenty of surprises. Registration begins Feb. 4 for Wantagh Public Library cardholders and Feb. 11 for out-of-district patrons.

  1. the science of taste

Teens in grades 6-12 can explore the fascinating world of taste on Friday, Feb. 28, at 4 p.m. This workshop will feature the miracle berry, which temporarily alters taste perception by making sour and bitter foods taste sweet. Participants will sample different foods and learn about the science behind taste buds. Registration opens Feb. 14 for Wantagh Public Library cardholders and Feb. 21 for out-of-district patrons.
