The Wantagh Schools Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Paul Guzzone as the new principal of Wantagh High School, effective July 1. He will succeed Carolyn Breivogel, who is retiring, after 30 years of service to the district, including 12 as principal.

Guzzone currently serves as associate principal and director of school counseling at Oceanside High School. He previously served as coordinator of special education at Oceanside’s Castleton High School, where he supervised the special education program and the district’s alternative high school.

In addition, Guzzone served on the district’s Mental Health and Wellness task force, where he implemented a new course, “Redefining Mental Health and Wellness,” whose focuses included advocacy, mindfulness practices and stigmas.

Guzzone received his doctorate in interdisciplinary studies, with a concentration in educational leadership from LIU Post, and has an advanced certificate in educational leadership from the same institution. He holds master’s degrees in curriculum development, instructional technology and adolescent secondary education from the SUNY Albany, where he also received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics education and business administration.

Guzzone lives in Seaford.

“We are extremely fortunate to have such a qualified candidate to replace longtime principal Carolyn Breivogel,” Wantagh Superintendent John McNamara said on announcing Guzzone’s appointment. “The Board of Education and I look forward to working with Dr. Guzzone in achieving the high school’s instructional goals.”
