Village elections postponed to April 28 because of coronavirus

The village trustee elections originally scheduled for March 18 have been  moved to April 28, according to an executive order signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The move is intended to reduce crowd densities, and slow the spread of the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus that by Monday afternoon had killed seven people and infected roughly 950 people in New York, according to a release from Cuomo's office. The order came in addition to another Monday that banned gatherings of more than 50 people.

"Our top priority has been keeping New Yorkers safe and stopping the spread of the novel coronavirus,"  Cuomo said in a statement. "Public health officials have been clear that reducing density is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread, and delaying village elections will help ensure poll workers and voters are not potentially exposed to the virus and at the same time maintain integrity in our election system."
