Wantagh FD runs in remembrance of a fellow firefighter

Posted

Several of our members took to the streets of Wantagh on Tuesday evening, March 30, to run a mile-long tribute to honor the memory of Spring Valley Firefighter Jared Lloyd, who died in the line of duty, and in support of “Running 4 Heroes, Inc.”

Running 4 Heroes was started in 2019 by then 10-year-old Zechariah Cartledge. Zechariah has a passion for running and an appreciation for first responders. Every time a first responder makes the ultimate sacrifice, he runs a mile in their memory carrying a flag representing the calling that the First Responder served as a way to honor them so “we may live in a better world.” He then presents the flag to the family of the fallen. To date, Zechariah has run 866 miles.

Running 4 Heroes also uses donations to provide financial assistance for the families. If you would like to find out more about this organization or to make a donation, please go to their website running4heroes.org or visit their Facebook page. Running 4 Heroes, Inc. is a 501-c3 non-profit organization.
