Sewanhaka H.S. honors the class of 2015

Sewanhaka High School held its annual Senior Awards program on May 28, honoring seniors for excellence in their academic endeavors and for participation in school and community service.

Many scholarships, established in memory of former alumni, and those from civic and community groups, were awarded to the seniors. Congratulations to valedictorian Shahzaib Saleem, who received several awards, including the Philip Christ Medal, the Answer Vending School Service Scholarship, the Green Club Award and the Science Department Graduation Medal. Saleem will be attending Cornell University, with a major in pre-med in the fall. Salutatorian Aleena Imran was also honored at the ceremony, receiving the Alva T. Stanforth Scholarship.

Brenton Mighty, Nicole Santoli and Nicole Williams received the Eamon McEneaney Scholarships, which was established by his friends and family after his death on September 11, 2001. Answer Vending School Service Scholarships were awarded to Mahnoor Ahmed, Sohaib Ahmed, Diana Cuervo, Rana Khan, Bryce Lawson, Asad Moughal, Andreas Pavlou, Omari Plunkett, Christian Pokorny, Karla Sabrozo, Willane Saint-Hilaire, Shahzaib Saleem and Sumaiya Usman.

The Sewanhaka Class of 1969 Andrew Pandolfo Memorial Scholarship was presented to Janee Archie; Diane Cuervo and Omar Hameed received the SHS Class of 1960 Graduate of Merit Scholarships in honor of Frederick Burgess. Liz and Arch Walker presented the Fran Walker Poetry Scholarship, in memory of their mother who taught English at Sewanhaka High School, to Jezebel Lopez.

In all, 115 scholarships and awards were presented to the Class of 2015. In addition, there were twenty Commencement Scholar medals, 16 Scholar Athlete medals and ten Departmental Excellence medals awarded, which will be worn by the students at graduation.
