A Hempstead man was arrested early morning on Feb. 24 in East Meadow for allegedly driving a stolen car, which he crashed three times before he was apprehended.

Police said that they spotted Oscar Ramos Lopez, 18, driving erratically eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike before attempting to stop the vehicle, only for him to flee southbound on Newbridge Road.

Lopez eventually struck a parked vehicle on Bush Street, a second car on Fairview Avenue and a third vehicle on First Avenue. After striking the third car, he exited his vehicle and fled on foot, allegedly ignoring commands from all officers.

Following a quick pursuit involving the Nassau County Police K-9 units, officers located the defendant in a nearby open detached garage and arrested him. A subsequent investigation revealed that he had stolen the vehicle he was driving on Feb. 22 in Hempstead.

Oscar Ramos Lopez has been charged with third-degree grand larceny, driving while intoxicated, second-degree criminal trespass, three counts of leaving the scene of an incident, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
