Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads joined Danny Antin, owner of Danny’s Chinese Kitchen in Bellmore, to deliver hot lunches to health care workers at Winthrop University Hospital on May 8.

The business, at 2370 Merrick Road, was closed for 35 days beginning in mid-March due to the pandemic. After reopening, Antin said giving back to the community was on the top of his to-do list.

“I bumped into Legislator Rhoads one day while we were closed down and asked him how we could make a donation happen together,” said Antin, of Merrick. “We were proud to join him to deliver more than 40 meals to the doctors, nurses and health care workers on the front lines of the Covid-19 outbreak.”

Rhoads also brought messages of support from children and residents as part of the county’s “Letters to our Heroes” campaign to show frontline workers just how much they’re appreciated.

“Doctors and nurses across our county are continuing to selflessly work 24/7 on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Rhoads said. “I was very proud to partner with Danny's Chinese Kitchen to deliver hot lunches to these brave workers who are putting the safety of Nassau's residents above their own.”

“It turned out great,” Antin added. “Our community has always come together in times of crisis, [and] we will continue to look for ways to give back to our community that has always been so generous to us.”
