Elmont Memorial High School students learned remotely on Oct. 15 and 16, after Sewanhaka Central High School District officials were informed by the Nassau County Department of Health that a staff member has tested positive for Covid-19.

The two-day closure enabled the Department of Health to conduct contact tracing, Superintendent James Grossane wrote in a message to parents on Oct. 14, and the building would be deep cleaned and disinfected on Oct. 16.

The contract tracing was complete by Monday, when students returned to the building.

“As always,” Grossane said, “the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff are our top priority.”
