Elmont man arrested for driving drunk with child

An Elmont man was arrested on Nov. 28 at 9:20 p.m. for drunk driving with a child in the car.

According to Nassau County police, Manuel B. Asuncion, 46, was driving a Suzuki SUV and struck the rear of another vehicle in the McDonald’s Drive-Thru on Elmont road. The two occupants, a male and female, were uninjured.

A subsequent investigation was conducted and Asuncion was placed under arrest while his 6-year-old child was in the car. The child was released into the custody of his mother.

Asuncion is charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 16 under the Leandra’s Law and endangering the welfare of a child. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 29 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
