EMFD, Sixth Battalion sends thanks to NUMC

The East Meadow Fire Department joined with units from every other fire departments of the Sixth Battalion on Monday morning to pay a visit to our healthcare professionals at the Nassau University Medical Center to lend support amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the seemingly never ending sound of sirens, and air horns, firefighters lined Hempstead Turnpike to honor the dedicated and brave professionals of the facility.

More than 50 of Long Island's bravest cheered and clapped, holding signs, raising banners, and ladders, in a show of support in ongoing battle to save lives.

On the opposite side of the road stood the medical center, with its hospital staff spaced across the lawn, many still in masks and gowns, out to acknowledge the support being given. From the street, firefighters waved up at the doctors and nurses in the windows above.

It was a heartwarming moment for both sides of the street.

The East Meadow Fire Department knows far too well, what this facility and the outstanding people within it, do each day to remedy the sick and injured.

But on this day, and forever more, a new level of respect is cast upon our healthcare professionals, for the work they are accomplishing, under most difficult circumstances, at times being overwhelmed, at times concerned of supplies, and with a level of risk to themselves never before witnessed in our lifetime. It is a risk firefighters know well at any given time in the performance of their duty.

To all the employees of our Nassau County Medical Center, "Whether you are a doctor, a nurse, a member of staff, an administrator, a security officer, food preparer, custodian or maintenance worker, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and stand with you in this fight to save lives.” Please stay safe as you perform your outstanding service to our county.
