EMFD’s Frank Messina reaches 50-year milestone

Posted

On November 16, 2020, Frank Messina, a Levittown resident and member of East Meadow Fire Department Engine Company 4, will have achieved a milestone few firefighters could ever imagine.

Messina will have responded to Fire and EMS emergencies, day in and day out, for 50 years.

A leader in our organization servicing countless years as Lieutenant, moving up to Company Captain on 6 different occasions.( 1976, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1994, 2009)

Serving four years as our Fire Chief culminating as Chief of Department in 1990.

An EMFD Fire Instructor teaching our newest members, affording them the skills they need to become outstanding firemen.

A retired Advanced Medical Technician for the County of Nassau back in the day, with his final years spent at the innovative Medical Control Center establishing radio communications with ambulances on medical emergencies throughout the County, when a Medical Doctor’s instructions or hospital destination need to be planned.

A proud member of the committee to raise funding for the Nassau County Firefighter’s burn center.

But throughout all Frank's accomplishments, what fellow firefighters and medical technicians appreciate the most is to see Frank pumping engine 614 at a fire, or driving ambulance 6144 to a medical emergency, now for 50 years and still going strong.

John J. O'Brien is an active Ex Chief of the East Meadow Fire Department. He is the District Supervisor of the Jericho Fire District and has over 40 years of Dispatch and Supervisory experience.
