Friends of the Bay and The WaterFront Center are partnering on an exciting new event, the First Kayak Conservation Cruise, on Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (Rain date: July 19).

This event will bring attention to Oyster Bay’s greatest resource – the estuary.

Participants will meet at The WaterFront Center in Oyster Bay to launch for a guided tour that will last approximately one hour. Cameron Jenness, education director at The WaterFront Center, and author and historian Bill Bleyer, president of Friends of the Bay, will be on hand to point out areas of natural and historical interest along the way. After returning to The WaterFront Center, kayakers will have until 11 a.m. to enjoy being on the water on their own.

The tax-deductible participation fee is $20 per person for adults and $10 for children under 15. Special event pricing is $35 for a single kayak rental for two hours and $45 for a double kayak rental for two hours. Proceeds from the event will be split between the two organizations to help with their outreach programs. Those with their own watercraft can park and launch at The WaterFront Center.

The number of registrants will be limited because of COVID-19 and all participants must wear a mask on shore. Participants can come between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. to sign in and get on the water to avoid social distancing issues.
